The N grade deserves attention. It is awarded for attendance shortfall or for not being permitted to sit the examination, and it carries zero grade points while the credits still count. Why CGPA gets harder to move

CGPA is a credit-weighted average over your entire registered load, so each new semester is a smaller share of a growing total. In semester two, a 9.5 semester GPA against a 7.5 first semester moves your CGPA to roughly 8.5. The same 9.5 in semester seven, against six prior semesters at 7.5, moves it only to about 7.8. The practical conclusion is unglamorous but true: early semesters are disproportionately valuable, and clearing arrears is almost always the highest-return action available to a student in later years.
